(Used) Selmer Mark VI 56*** Tenor Sax

You don't see these every day! From the first year of production (1954).

Other than some honest plating wear in the normal contact areas the only sign of damage is a cut in the receiver slot on the body which may have been done in the past to attempt to improve the neck fit without the correct tools to resize the neck tenon. However, the neck fit is now perfect.

The sound on this horn is genuinely staggering, it is incredibly responsive and powerful but with all the depth and texture you'd expect with an old VI.

My personal opinion on inspecting this horn is that it is in it's original silver plate and having showed it to some other discerning Selmer nerds they all feel the same way. The information provided by Doug Pipher shows that this horn left Paris without lacquer or plating to be finished in Selmer London as was customary at this period. After WWII the general opinion is that Selmer London had stopped doing silver plating in-house, suggesting that this horn was plated at a later date, however this is only speculation and as Doug had pointed out, is not conclusive. Another explanation is that Selmer London received a special order from a customer and agreed to silver plate it for them as an exception, making it's finish original. Either way, to the eye the finish looks 100% original and unlike any re-plated horn I've seen it seems to have a matt silver body and contrasting polished key work which I've seen countless time on original silver plated Selmer.
